This is the home of the stories I’ve written about the end of the world .as well as some works that others have sent and given me permission to post While some may not deal with the total collapse of society, the all share a central theme of the end of the world as we know it. In short, in the stories the world, as we know it today, has ended and something new has arisen from the remains of the old.
The collapse doesn’t have to be nuclear or biological in nature, it can just as easily happen when people loose confidence in the honesty and integrity of their government or financial institutions. James Wesley, Rawles’ excellent novel, “Patriots: Surviving The Coming Collapse” details the latter scenario where an out of control dollar takes down the economy of the United States and makes it ripe for “invasion” by external sources.
One thing that most good TEOTWAWKI writing has in common is a message of hope; that from the ashes and mistakes of the past we can rise above the devastation and rebuild our lives, families, and society into something better that actually learns from our past mistakes. This may be as simple as a group of strangers banding together to fight a common evil as in Steven King’s “The Stand”, or it could be an organized effort to help rebuild America as is the theme of the role playing game, “The Morrow Project” offered by Timeline.
TEOTWAWKI fiction shows the best and worst of humanity, and from that hopefully we can learn a bit about ourselves as well.
